Well it’s gearing up to be a busy time for our various VOTT groups over the coming weeks. First up, our Newcastle Choir are really excited to be taking part and lending our voices to the Teenage Cancer Trust’s Christmas charity single Here We Stand on Wednesday, November 20th, at Loft Music Studios in Newcastle. Written by Marty O’Nions and Phil Martin, in conjunction with patients from the TCT, and orchestrated and produced by VOTT’s very own Founder and Group MD, Steve Morton, along with top sound engineer and producer, Liam Gaughan, we’ll be singing as part of a mass choir which also includes patients from the TCT, and their families and friends. Supporting Jai McDowall, the Britain’s Got Talent 2011 winner, and Melissa Cavanagh, a former TCT patient, on lead vocals, it promises to be a fantastic experience. The single will be released on iTunes and will also be available to purchase as CDs. Watch this space and for more information, please check out the project’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/TeenageCancerTrustBand.
Our Newcastle group are then in action again for their Christmas show at the Royal Grammar School Performing Arts Centre in Jesmond. This too is sure to be a great night and tickets can be bought via the following link: http://www.wegottickets.com/event/249029. So go on – what are you waiting for?! We’ll be performing a whole range of great material from Gospel, Soul, 80s Rock, Contemporary Pop/Rock classics and, of course, a few Christmas tunes to get you in the mood for Santa. What’s more, ticket proceeds will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust to support their efforts in the North East’s specialist units. And finally, following on from the charity single, the group will be performing the song live with Jai and Melissa at the Teenage Cancer Trust’s Concert for Christmas, Wednesday 18th of December, at St. Nicholas’ Cathedral, Newcastle.
Our Glasgow choir are also really looking forward to performing firstly, in George Square on Sunday, 9th of December, for Glasgow Loves Christmas. We’ll be performing from 4.30pm as part of this great outdoor event featuring lots of other groups and entertainment. It’s sure to be a great atmosphere, with George Square magically lit with Christmas lights and best of all… US singing some great songs. So come on down if you’re able. Perhaps bring a flask of tea with you or some pennies for mulled wine to keep you warm though! The Glasgow group then have their Christmas show at the Scottish Piping Centre on Sunday, 22nd of December. Raising money for the charity Shelter and in support of Andy Haldane’s Christmas charity single All I Need Is A Little Shelter, all who attend are in for a special night and tickets will soon be on sale, so watch this space…
And elsewhere, our Edinburgh choir are really starting to motor and grow in confidence. We’ve got a great group of members there who are all gelling brilliantly, both musically and socially. So it won’t be at all long before our Edinburgh vocal group are performing at events and holding their own feature shows! In the meantime, if you’d like to get involved and come along to a VOTT Edinburgh rehearsal, you can register for a Free taster session by filling out the form on our Join Now page.
Sadly though, our Birmingham choir has experienced some unprecedented problems which has meant that we have had to halt this current term. However, we can assure all those interested in attending our group there that we will be resuming rehearsals in the new year, and look forward to building a great contemporary choir which is able to be involved in the projects and events which our other groups are currently enjoying. So please do get in touch to register your interest in trying out our Birmingham vocal group in the new year, again via our Join Now page.
